How Townbrief East Bridgewater uses AI

Townbrief East Bridgewater uses artificial intelligence to help produce local government coverage for East Bridgewater, human-supervised and reviewed. This page explains briefly what AI does and what people do.

What AI does

  • Transcribes public meeting recordings.
  • Drafts articles from meeting records: transcripts, agendas, packets and minutes.
  • Suggests headlines.

Our reporting stays with the record

Our coverage is news drawn from public records. AI works from meeting recordings and documents, and we publish reporting, not opinion or endorsements.

How we check our work

An automated fact-check compares each article with the meeting record.

The people involved

People at Townbrief are responsible for the software and for what it publishes.

  • The editor sets the rules. Our editor decides which public records the system reads, what it is instructed to do and not do, and in which towns an article must pass the check before it is published.
  • People keep the reference lists. The checker compares names and titles with official committee rosters. Rosters are collected automatically, and people add staff that a town's own web page leaves out.
  • A held article is not published until a person has dealt with it. If the check holds an article, a person reviews what it found, then corrects the article, rewrites it or releases it.
  • People edit and approve. Held articles open on an internal editing desk, where an editor can change the text, approve it and publish it.
  • People review the checker every day. Every day an editor reviews the fact-check results and the open issues across our towns, and corrects what needs correcting.
  • People handle corrections. Townbrief staff read reader reports of mistakes. Confirmed errors are corrected on the article with a note saying what changed and when.

Corrections

If you see a mistake, tell us at support@townbrief.com. Confirmed errors are corrected on the article with a note saying what changed and when. See our corrections policy.

Transparency

We tell readers that our drafting is AI-assisted, on this site and in our social media posts and videos.
