East Bridgewater Board Renews Town Administrator Contract, Authorizes EPA Brownfields Bid

EAST BRIDGEWATER — January 12, 2026 — East Bridgewater Select Board unanimously approves Town Administrator contract extension and authorizes $1.5 million EPA Brownfields grant application. The board voted 3-0 on all action items at its January 12 meeting, including a new contract for Town Administrator Charles Seelig running to August 30, 2027, and authorization to submit a federal EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant application for the former Precise Engineering site at 54 West Union Street — a town-owned, 1.4-acre parcel vacant for more than 20 years and contaminated with chlorinated solvents, asbestos, petroleum hydrocarbons, PCBs, and metals. Tracy Costa of Verdantis, the town's environmental consultant, told the board the $1.5 million request covers the full estimated cleanup cost including contingency, requires no local match this cycle, and carries no application cost to the town; the deadline is January 28. A neighbor of the site, Jason Maloney of 65 Cook Street, alerted the board to hazardous chain-link fence conditions along the sidewalk, prompting Seelig to commit to a DPW follow-up the next day. The board also voted 3-0 to authorize the Treasurer/Collector to begin selling 50 tax-title parcels acquired through foreclosure, pending departmental review of the list.
