Planning Board backs North Bedford Street housing overlay district

Planning Board · Meeting of April 6, 2026

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Planning Board backs North Bedford housing overlay for MBTA compliance. East Bridgewater's Planning Board unanimously recommended approval of the North Bedford Street Housing Overlay District, a zoning amendment designed to address the state's identification of the town as noncompliant with MBTA Communities requirements. The board also voted unanimously to recommend approval of accessory dwelling unit amendments permitting ADUs in all residential zones after Attorney General concerns about district restrictions, and to rezone approximately 65 buildable acres on North Bedford Street from B-4 to B-2 districts for mixed-use development.

The board approved a Special Permit for a mixed-use project at 494 West Street.
